Ethylene oxide (EO) is a fumigant pesticide used to combat fungi and bacteria, but it can also be mutagenic and carcinogenic. Since 2020, the detection of EO has resulted in food recalls in countries such as Singapore and Europe. In fact, thousands of food products have been recalled in European countries, making the EO incident one of the biggest food recall operations in the EU history.
